AREA INFO

Lake Lure is a 1500-acre lake surrounded by 27 miles of shoreline located approximately 20 miles southeast of Asheville in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. The Town of Lake Lure was incorporated in 1927 and is located in the Isothermal Zone where moderate temperatures prevail. Summer temps average 74.8 degrees and winter temps average 45.5 degrees. The lake itself is a semi private and family oriented lake. Property owners within the town limits of Lake Lure enjoy boating on the lake for a small annual permit fee. Non residents may purchase weekly boat permits for $200.00. These measures help insure that Lake Lure remains tranquil and serene. There are no jet-powered boats or jet skis allowed on the lake.

National Geographic  magazine reported Lake Lure as one of the ten most beautiful man-made lakes in the world. The elevation at lake level is 1,000 feet while the surrounding mountains tower to 3,500 feet providing endless opportunities for artists, photographers or just plain folks to drink in the natural beauty. Enjoy the evenings without the glare of neon lights and fast food places. Golfers will appreciate two championship golf courses at Fairfield Mountains Resort or the town's Municipal Golf Course. Activities such as canoeing, rafting, kayaking, mountain climbing, fly fishing, bicycling, spelunking, camping and more are all at your fingertips. Come to our mountains, step back in time, lose yourself to the magic and majesty of Lake Lure and find yourself again.
